RM2,000 Minimum Wage: How Employers Can Prepare Before June 2027

Oct 16, 2026

The minimum wage will rise from RM1,700 to RM2,000 from June 2027. Businesses with annual sales below RM50 million are exempt from this rise. Even if you are exempt, it is wise to plan.

Six steps to prepare

  1. Check if you are exempt. Look at your annual sales, and confirm the final rules with official sources, because details can still change.
  2. Review your payroll. List everyone near RM1,700 today.
  3. Work out the cost. Include EPF, SOCSO and EIS on top of basic pay.
  4. Review your pricing and productivity. Look for ways to save time and reduce waste before raising prices.
  5. Stay competitive. Workers will compare your pay with employers who must pay RM2,000.
  6. Hire early. Build a pool of candidates before 2027.
